    My name is Greg Husebye.

I am an artist living in Southern California. I began creating artwork again several years ago after a 30 year hiatus to raise my family.

My desire to create art is among my earliest memories. I attended Chouinard School of Art on a Disney scholarship in 1967, directly from high school. Unable to continue schooling due to a lack of funds, I joined the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict, serving from 1967-70. I returned and enrolled in school on the GI Bill in 1972 and received my AA and then my BFA from Otis Art Institute in 1976, majoring in Fine Art, with a minor in English.

I grew up working in a machine shop from age 9, migrating gradually to construction and finally becoming an Operating Engineer for commercial office buildings. I supported myself with these activities in order to create my art.

I maintained and lived in my own art studio until 1981, when I met and eventually married my wife, Bonnie. I suddenly had a mortgage and two step-children. I chose family over my art and spent the next 34 years in commercial real estate, becoming an executive in charge of engineering and environmental programs for national property owners such as Tishman West, MetLife and Arden Realty/GE Capital Real Estate, and CBRE.

Although never completely out of my thoughts, with our children grown, I began to seriously consider drawing and painting again. I created a studio space in our garage, large enough to produce the paintings and drawings I had envisioned.

Charcoal, India Ink, and Pastel on paper, and acrylic on canvas are my preferred mediums, although I am contemplating additional tools and materials, such as computer art, some of which are included above.

Because I have been asked many times and have had to think about it, I have come to consider my work Pop-Expressionism, with Absurdist overtones. I almost always include representations of human figures in my works. I have a lot of fun with the titles, many of which occur first and give me ideas for the work. I try to engage the viewer's eye and mind with colorful images and settings to create thoughtful pieces people can enjoy viewing. Much of my work stems from my other passion, reading, and contain allusions to my favorite works and passages.

Bonnie is retired from her professional career and we celebrated our 36th Anniversary in 2019. We have five wonderful granddaughters and one grandson, all of whom live nearby, and we get to see them and our son, daughter and other extended family often.

I am still working full time, am healthy and vigorous and do not intend to retire any time soon. Also, I have a passion for my chosen field and the people who also work in it.

I hope you experience my work.
